What a Fiasco Oz Idol Has Become

Listen to the Judges comments! They are so obviously trying to make the best of a bad situation. I don't think they wanted the competition to go this way. And they probably have less say in the matter than you or I realise.

Behind their words it is easy to see that they realise that with the eliminations of contestants in previous weeks they are now left with only one contender for the title of Oz Idol 2007. And how do you string it out for another couple of weeks when everone knows who's going to win?

What a miserably, ridiculous and futile competition it has become!

If anyone tried to convince me that the competition is not rigged, I'd have to say that they are blind, because it is so bloody obvious.

I've; sadly; lost a lot of interest and respect for Idol after the last few years.

Some of the really good contenders seem to be eliminated in favour of the less talented. And the final counts are (sometimes) a fiasco.

Is there someone behind the scenes pulling strings and manipulating the votes of the Oz public? If so it has to stop! Now!

When a young artist of the calibre of Tarisai, who has completely knocked me over week after week is eliminated in the third last week of the competition, so that we are left with 2 maybe's and a sure thing is very evident of tampering behind the scenes.

Believe me this is not uncommon when there is no publicly available information readily available on the real results of the phone vote.

We are left to believe that what we see as the final 'people's decision' is what really took place, and I don't; for one; believe it!

There is just too much left to doubt! The way things stand, people behind the scenes can fiddle without anyone knowing.

Too many people in the background, may be getting a few thousand slapped in their hand to screw the results. How are we ever to know?

The only way to keep this valuable competition honest is for the public to impose more strict rules on openly reporting the results of votes that the public make.

That then would have to be an independant organization compiling the votes too keep it honest. Ok! This may take away some of the suspense that the show uses to build user interest. But that's just too bad for them. The end game is honesty, and that is what is totally missing from the Oz Idol competition.

It seems to me that the only benifiters of the phone voting are the phone companies themselves. (WOW, surprise surprise). We are charged a fee for every call we make to vote! And I'm not too sure but, do you think the phone companies care what we vote? No, they only want people to make more phone calls don't they! That's where their revenue comes from.

It seems to me that if we go to the trouble and expense to vote on these competitions, then we should get some value for money by getting feedback about the votes that we make for each performer! But WE ARE NOT GETTING IT ARE WE? (If the phone companies were realy smart, they would push this, because, if you could see the running totals of the votes, and you see that your favourite is not at the top, guess what? Yeah, you'd put in another vote or two and generate a bit more revenue for those companies. But they're not that smart are they!).

Regardless of the voting public, I believe someone behind the scenes with their own agenda is screwing the votes, so our money is wasted. We spend it. They squander it for their own ends, AND IT HAS TO STOP NOW!

I invite your comments. Let me know what you think. Am I wrong? Or am I right?

Understand that I am not pushing for any particular artist. I just want to see a fair and impartial competition. You're opinion is important!

  1. Being an ardent fan of music, I so far have not been disappointed with results...My picks from the onset were Natalie, who by the way was spectacular tonight.Mark Tarasai and Carl .. I personally favour Carl, but not world class. Marty I found is very, very favoured by the surfing fraternity and the young lad (though not to my taste is also a star).
Tarasai however, was exceptional, but did not hold my attention for long. That is usually how I judge, ie who holds my attention.
I do agree with you that a running total would certainly change matters and would generate more money for company, so I do not think it is rigged. On saying that I suppose if your fav is well ahead then you might not vote, half a dozen of one.
Confused, so am I, but thoroughly agree with outcome which I predicted from onset. soreee.
See ya Marty.....On a final note the young lad will win....

  2. I agree with you Lynne. Natalie was exceptional tonight. But I think Tarisai would have been better in the competition at this stage than Marty. That to me is a dissapointment.

I really think that what happens back stage should not be mentioned at all. There are lot's of people in the music industry that I love - Shirley Bassey for one - that I probably couldn't stand in everyday life. These stars have a few methods of suppressing those things about them in private life (not all things) that would turn the public off them. I know that Ms Bassey is a very hard person to both live with and work with!

So why should these Idol stars have the voting public know what happens behind the scenes that influence their votes?

I'm sorry to dissagree, but in my mind Tarisai had the popential to become not only an Australian star to be proud of , but an international star, Think about her age! In her prformances, she was professional in every way. Her dress, stage handling, word phrasing, phenomenol voice, what else could you ask for?

She should have been given the chance to at least be in the final three - but no. Someone decided that they didn't think she should be! And I don't think it was the Australian audience that decided. And that's my point!

I still a toss up between Natalie and Carl. But there is no competition between them, so it'll be Natalie (my second choice from the start). Sorrry - goodbye Marty!

  3. I don't watch t.v.

The kids watch a few shows on pay, hubby watches ALOT of sports, me - when I want to watch something it is usually a doco I recorded or a DVD :)

But I believe everything on tv is rigged - from ads through to bias news reports. I was sure Eddy McGuire was pulling shifty's on 'who wants to be a millionaire' and when I was a kid I was terribly suspicious of that wheel of fortune ... hahaha!

    So, yeah, I'd believe it.

  4. I agree with a lot that Lynne says...correct Carl has some appeal but not world class and will not transfer into large record sales... In my book Natalie is the winner...she has the appeal to transfer her talents through many genre and it is hard to fault her voice unlike the other 3....Carl did well last night but it may not transfer to votes...I think a lot have been voting for him to keep him in it even know his performances have been lackluster apart from when he has used his trumpet.
Marty has remained true to himself and is the dark horse . Of the 4 I would say Natalie followed by Marty would achieve the greatest record sales.....Matt is a good singer but I don't think is you had to listen to 12 songs from him in a row you'd tune out after 4.

I'll back a roughie and say time to go Carl
and I'll hope Lynne doesn't stick too many needles in that effigy of me.

I think tarisai may of been a year or 2 too young. She is a good singer though and has plenty of time

  5. That`s why I don`t watch anything like that Terry....I believe they are rigged and most of the time the one with the most talent doesn`t get anywhere...It`s more a popularity contest than a singing one...

  6. Hello Terry,

I don't watch that programme now and haven't for the past 2 years. I think it is a popularity contest and rigged as well. These are two of the reason why I don't bother to watch it anymore.

    Take care,
    Margaret

  7. Hi Sonia, Les, Mandy and Margaret.

I know it would have been better to say this yesterday, but as far as was concerned, it had to be Marty that went. I expected hime to be the one to go the night Tarisai and he were the bottom 2. Every song that Marty sings sonds the same to me. That's basically the same thing that Les in saying about Matt.

I don't think Carl will get through next week, this coming Sunday will be his last performance!

As far as who the winner will be. If the votes aren't rigged, Natalie is a clear winner. But there's been some media talk about a particular religious group insisting that their members only vote for Matt, who is of the same religious persuation. That's very wrong, and once more a church uses it's power over it's constituents for all the wrong reasons!

So, all things being equal, it will be a final between Matt and Natalie.

  8. Last night I was spellbound by Natalie, she is a buddle of joy. Come on Aust. get behind her.

NO, I haven't changed horses during the race, but, let's face it Matt has the young vote & the church it seems, and Carl, my favourite has the navy and the blue rinse set. the WINNER IS ENTIRELY UP TO THE VOTERS I SAY

  15. Lovely smile Sonia.

Sorry I can't comment or post at the moment. I've got some personal problems. I think it may be depression, so I've got friend coming, and I'm off to the doctor.

  18. Tomorrow night is the night. The votes will be in and I must say that I wasn't impressed with any of the performances by either of the finalists last Sunday.

I still believe Natalie has the edge. We'll just have to wait and see.

I usually watch Dancing With The Stars. Not because I want to, but Lorna likes that show.

I have enjoyed it in past competitions, and I probably would have if Patty hadn'e been on this one for so long. But I just lost interest this time.

Besides. I had a lot better things to do this year! Blogging, Blogging, Blogging!

    Terry.
