Finally, here they are. I'm not particularly happy with the quality still.
These were taken with a Riccoh g4_wide 3.2 mPx camera, with a shutter speed of 8 seconds using a tripod. This camera doesn't take very good nighttime pictures with or without flash. It's time I started thinking about buying a better camera, (maybe I should have written to Santa!) but these will have to do. Click on a Thumbnail to see the ful size photo.
You may have noticed a large orange tub outside the front porch.
This is used to water the plants in the front garden. We are on stage 3a water restrictions now in Melbourne. The tub gets it's water from another tub in the shower in the ensuite. The plants don't seem to mind a bit of soapy water!

My camera probably wouldn't take a very good night shot, I haven't tried as yet only at sunset for the sun going down, they came out ok. Your photos look ok.
We don't have water restrictions as yet but it could come seeing as we had the driest and warmest November on record.

Hi Margaret. I'm sure your camera will take natural light photos. You just have to get into the menu and select an exposure time, then make sure the flash is turned off.
ReplyDeleteIt's an absolute necessity to use a tripod.
These photos were taken using an exposure time of 8 seconds. Imagine trying to hold the camera absolutely still for that length of time - impossible. Even the slightest movement will be noticable. City shots at night are my favourite natural light shots, but I haven't done any for years. I'm going to start having some fun again, especially since I can see the result immediately with these modern cameras.

ReplyDeleteHi Terry, your photo's don't look too bad, maybe like me you are your biggest critique. Have you tried "bracketing" the shot(3 shots 1under & 1 overexposed. My camera is a bit more difficult than my old 35mmSLR, and I'm still trying to learn how to use the thing.
ReplyDeleteGrey water is ok for the lawn,maybe not the wash water but the rince water is ok, my Mum has a bucket in her bathroom and she saves all the cold water from the hot water tap, kitchen too.

ReplyDeleteSeveral centuries ago, the Pope decreed that all the Jews had to convert or leave Italy.
There was a huge outcry from the Jewish community, so the Pope offered a deal.
He would have a religious debate with the leader of the Jewish community.
If the Jews won, they could stay in Italy.
If the Pope won, they would have to leave.
The Jewish people met and picked an aged but wise Rabbi, Moishe, to represent them in the debate.
However, as Moishe spoke no Italian and the Pope spoke no Hebrew, they all agreed that it would be a "silent" debate.
On the chosen day, the Pope and Rabbi Moishe sat opposite each other for a full minute before the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. Rabbi Moishe looked back and raised one finger. Next the Pope waved his finger around his head. Rabbi Moishe pointed to the ground where he sat. The Pope then brought out a communion wafer and a chalice of wine. Rabbi Moishe pulled out an apple. With that, the Pope stood up and declared that he was beaten, that Rabbi Moishe was too clever and that the Jews could stay.
Later, the Cardinals met with the Pope, asking what had happened. The Pope said, "First I held up three fingers to represent the Trinity. He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there is still only one God common to both our beliefs. "Then, I waved my finger to show him that God was all around us. He responded by pointing to the ground to show that God was also right here with us. "I pulled out the wine and wafer to show that God absolves us of all our sins. He pulled out an apple to remind me of the original sin. He had me beaten and I could not continue." Meanwhile, the Jewish community were gathered around Rabbi Moishe. "What happened?" they asked. "Well," said Moishe. "First he said to me that we had three days to get out of Italy, so I said to him, 'Up yours.' Then he tells me that the whole country would be cleared of Jews and I said to him, 'Mr. Pope, we're staying right here.' " "And then what?" asked a woman. "Who knows?" said Moishe. "He took out his lunch so I took out mine."
Hi Doug. Ya can't bracket shots when you're doing timed exposure, but thanks for the suggestion anyway. The Ricoh camera leaves all sorts of colour glitches on the image when you take anything other than plain old normal light photos. I'm not happy with it at all considering how much it cost me, but that was 4 years ago!

ReplyDeleteI do love Christmas lights and from what I can see you have done a great job....I`m afraid this year I haven`t done mine but alot of people in the area have so I`ll take the kids to look at them...I don`t think it matters how old you are it`s a great enjoyment to see...

ReplyDeleteI was looking forward to seeing a fabulous Christmas display further up our street. Last year a family decorated the whole front lawn, garden and front rooms with a Birth of Christ motive. It was absolutely stunning. I guess the whole family must have contributed time to it.
Unfortunately, they have sold the house and moved away.
Lorna's Birthday bash was great. We had it at a place called Greenville Receptions in Thomastown. It was well attended by friends and family. The food was delicious, and it was all well catered. The band wasn't so hot though. The were quite good musicians, but the music seemed a bit hard to dance to.
